Health Discussion: Transforming Caregiving Through Smart Technology
Health Talk delves into the ways intelligent technology is transforming the landscape of caregiving, enhancing the quality and efficiency of care provided to patients. The discussion focuses on innovative solutions and tools that empower caregivers and improve patient outcomes.
This vision is coming to fruition through groundbreaking innovations like human-machine symbiosis, which merges biological and mechanical systems, and intelligent robots that assist bedridden individuals with tasks such as moving and showering.
Yu Hongliu, dean of the Institute of Intelligent Rehabilitation Engineering at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and president of the International Convention and Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology, is actively contributing to this field. His research spans intelligent bionic prosthetics that closely resemble natural body parts to exoskeletons designed to help individuals with mobility challenges regain the ability to walk.
Yu's team has been at the forefront of developing innovations such as visually assisted dining robots and multifunctional care systems, which include wheelchairs that aid with everyday activities like bathing and navigation. These tools, when integrated with AI-driven monitoring systems, not only enhance the quality of life but also alleviate the workload for caregivers.
Looking to the future, Yu envisions advancements in artificial general intelligence that would allow robots to mimic human emotions and provide emotional companionship. He believes that through collaborative efforts across various industries and academia, intelligent assistive devices can make a significant positive impact on people around the globe.
