China's C919 Aircraft Launches 5th Regular Route
China's domestic passenger jet, the C919, inaugurated its fifth official flight route on Monday, providing service between Beijing and Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province in northwest China. The flight operations are managed by China Eastern Airlines (CEA).

The inaugural flight, MU2113, departed from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport with 139 passengers aboard and landed in Beijing after a roughly 2.5-hour journey. The return flight took off from Beijing at 8:00 p.m. on the same day.

The C919 is a product of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC). This aircraft features two engines, can accommodate between 158 and 192 passengers, and has a range of 4,075 to 5,555 kilometers.

The aircraft is designed with state-of-the-art aerodynamic features, modern propulsion systems, and materials that enhance its fuel efficiency and reduce its carbon emissions. It also appeared internationally at the Singapore Airshow in February.

Currently, CEA is the only airline operating the C919, with the 7th jet added to its fleet last month, a year after the model's first commercial flight. China's initiative with its indigenous mainline jet aims to challenge established industry giants like Boeing and Airbus in the global civil aviation market.

In its first year of service, the C919 has already flown on routes connecting Shanghai to Chengdu, Beijing, Xi'an, and Guangzhou. As of August 3, it has completed 3,133 flights and carried nearly 420,000 passengers.
