Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, remarked that despite the rapidly changing international landscape, the mutual trust and support between China and Russia remain steadfast. He emphasized the strategic leadership of both nations and the importance of collaborating to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
He highlighted the increasing strategic significance of BRICS unity and cooperation in light of the current global situation. Wang pointed out that China and Russia, as founding members of BRICS, should bolster their coordination within this framework, deepen collaboration among developing nations and emerging economies, continually amplify the influence of BRICS Plus, and inject robust momentum into global development and prosperity, thereby contributing to a fairer and more equitable global governance system.
Lavrov, in turn, underscored the importance of maintaining close relations between Russia and China to navigate the swiftly evolving global circumstances. He expressed Russia's readiness to collaborate with China in preparation for significant exchanges between their heads of state in the near future and noted their joint commitment to commemorating the 80th anniversaries of the Soviet Union's victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

In relation to the Ukraine crisis, Lavrov provided an overview of the situation and reaffirmed Russia's openness to engage in unconditional peace talks with Ukraine, with an emphasis on resolving the underlying issues of the crisis. He announced a temporary ceasefire expected around May 9, the date that commemorates the Soviet Union's victory in the Great Patriotic War. Wang reiterated China's consistent position advocating for peace and dialogue.
Furthermore, the two diplomats engaged in discussions on enhancing cooperation within multilateral platforms such as the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the G20. They also exchanged perspectives on issues pertaining to Iran's nuclear program and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
