Biden expresses 'concern' over the 'peaceful' nature of the election
The president expressed his worries regarding the actions of former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance while speaking to reporters, stating, “I’m concerned about what they’re going to do.”
“The things that Trump has said and the things he said last time out when he didn't like the outcome of the election were very dangerous,” Biden remarked informed reporters during an unexpected appearance at a White House press briefing on Friday. He pointed out that “the vice presidential Republican candidate did not say he'd accept the outcome of the election and hasn't even accepted the outcome of the last election.”
“I’m concerned about what they’re going to do,” he added.
Biden's comments came in response to a significant moment from Tuesday’s vice presidential debate, in which Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the GOP vice presidential nominee, declined to acknowledge that former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. Instead, he claimed that he and Trump were “focused on the future,” a statement that his Democratic opponent, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, criticized as “a damning non-answer.”
When asked during the debate whether he would accept the results of the 2024 election if Trump were to lose, Vance sidestepped the question, shifting the focus to Democratic “censorship.”
When further questioned, Vance stated: “We are going to shake hands after this debate and after this election. Of course, I hope that we win and I think we’re going to win, but if Tim Walz is the next vice president, he’ll have my prayers, he’ll have my best wishes and he’ll have my help whenever he wants it.”
Republican National Committee spokesperson Anna Kelly criticized the Biden administration, stating, “Kamala Harris ignored the will of millions of primary voters to become the Democrat Party nominee, and she and Joe Biden weaponized our justice system in order to sway an election.” She asserted that “Under Harris and Biden, Americans have felt anything but peace.”
Trump has repeatedly denied that he lost the 2020 election to Biden, and his campaign, along with allied groups, filed numerous lawsuits challenging the results. Additionally, Trump faces charges federally and in Georgia related to election interference and was impeached by the House for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection.
As Election Day approaches, Trump has adopted a new slogan for his rallies aimed at encouraging voter turnout: “Too big to rig.”
