IDF Says Hezbollah 'Communications Chief' Has Been Killed
Mohammad Rashid Sakafi was confirmed dead in an airstrike in Beirut on Thursday, according to the Israeli military.

The Israeli army reported that Sakafi, a high-ranking member of Hezbollah, was killed in a “precise, intelligence-based strike in Beirut yesterday.” The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) referred to him as “a senior Hezbollah terrorist” and noted he had served as the group’s chief of communications since 2000. The IDF further stated, “Sakafi invested significant efforts to develop communication capabilities between all of Hezbollah’s units.” Hezbollah has yet to respond to these assertions.

In recent months, the IDF has targeted several prominent members of Hezbollah, including the group's long-time leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed on September 27.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant indicated during a visit to the 36th Division’s headquarters in northern Israel on Friday that the army had “more surprises in store” for Hezbollah.

Israel has ramped up its airstrikes in Lebanon since late September and has conducted cross-border operations in retaliation for ongoing rocket attacks from Hezbollah. The bombing campaign has resulted in over 2,000 deaths and displaced more than 1.2 million people, as reported by Lebanese health authorities.

Additionally, around 70,000 Israelis have been forced to evacuate the northern region of the country due to threats from Hezbollah. The IDF has stated that the current operations aim to push militants away from the border and ensure safety for the return of refugees. However, Hezbollah has pledged to continue its rocket assaults on Israel until the IDF concludes its military action against Hamas in Gaza.
