Biden expected to get endorsement by major abortion rights groups

The nation’s top abortion rights groups are expected to endorse President Joe Biden’s reelection bid at an event Friday in Washington, according to four people familiar with the plans.

EMILY’s List, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund are scheduled to announce their endorsements at a rally with Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the people said.

The event will mark the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Dobbs that overturned Roe v Wade.

“There is so much at stake. We know, clear as day, that if anti-abortion politicians gain control of the White House, they will exploit their power toward their ultimate goal: a national abortion ban,” Planned Parenthood Action Fund president Alexis McGill Johnson said in a statement. “That is why we must re-elect President Biden and Vice President Harris: people we can trust to keep rebuilding a path forward, because we know the journey to rebuilding our rights will be met with challenges.”

The president, vice president and their spouses are all expected to speak at Friday’s event.

The endorsements are not unexpected, given Biden’s status as an incumbent and considering how front and center abortion rights have been to the Biden administration. Last week, a group of leading environmental associations and top unions also endorsed the president's reelection effort.

This would be the third large endorsement the nascent campaign has received in the last two weeks.

The DNC and Biden campaign declined to comment.
