Bezos Replaces Bond Producers Following 'Idiots' Comment – Reports
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has reportedly taken decisive action regarding the James Bond franchise, seizing full creative control after longtime producer Barbara Broccoli allegedly referred to his executives as “f**king idiots,” according to a report from the Hollywood Reporter on Friday.

Sources indicate that Bezos responded swiftly, demanding Broccoli’s removal at all costs, which ultimately resulted in a $1 billion agreement. Consequently, Amazon has gained complete authority over the direction of the James Bond franchise.

Amazon's acquisition of MGM in 2022 provided it with distribution rights to the films, but creative control was still in the hands of Eon Productions, managed by Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. The pair resisted Amazon’s proposed spin-offs, which included a Moneypenny series and a female-led 007 project, as they wanted to preserve the traditional narrative of James Bond.

Tensions between Broccoli, Wilson, and Amazon executives intensified in late 2024. In December, the Wall Street Journal reported that Broccoli confided to friends her mistrust of “algorithm-centric Amazon with a character she helped to mythologize through big-screen storytelling and gut instinct.” She also labeled the status of the next Bond film as critical, noting there was no script, story, or actor selected for the role. During this discussion, she described Amazon's personnel as “f**king idiots.”

This remark reportedly infuriated Bezos, prompting him to take radical measures. “He read her quote in the Journal and got on the phone and said, ‘I don’t care what it costs, get rid of her,’” an insider shared with the magazine. Shortly after, Amazon finalized a nearly $1 billion deal to remove Broccoli and Wilson from their roles, enabling the franchise to fall fully under Amazon MGM Studios.
