Following the worldwide launch of Black Myth: Wukong, the inaugural Animation-Comic-Game Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area 2024 event has won the hearts of audiences globally. This pioneering festival has significantly advanced the fusion of global influence, animation creativity, digital technology, and the cultural and tourism sectors within the GBA.

The event took place at the Futian Convention and Exhibition Center in Shenzhen and ran from September 15 to 17. The festival spanned three days and showcased a wide range of exhibitors and performers from numerous countries, including France, Argentina, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Highlights included a classic animation music festival and an Asia-Pacific cosplay carnival, which contributed to the festival's vibrant atmosphere.

Under the leadership of the China Animation Comic Game Group, the festival was organized through a collaboration between the Greater Bay Area Branch of the National Animation Creative Research and Development Center and the Organizing Committee of Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong. The key aim is to create a world-class event that boosts the global presence of the Greater Bay Area's animation and video game sectors.

Animation-Comic-Game Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area 2024 has successfully established the Greater Bay Area as a dynamic center for animation, comics, and games, promoting innovation, cooperation, and cultural exchange.

For the first time in 25 years, Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong, previously known as the Hong Kong Comics Festival and held annually since 1999 at the end of July, was hosted in Shenzhen.

Leung Chung-pun, chief executive of the Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong organizing committee, shared his excitement about sharing Hong Kong's established animation industry with Shenzhen. "The launch of the festival is a small step for us. We hope that we can take a big step forward in the exchange and integration of animation culture between the two places in the future," Leung noted, also mentioning that "anime culture is global and that the mission behind launching the event is to promote cultural exchanges."

ACG GBA 2024 is poised to be a prime venue for worldwide product launches. A plethora of activities including a classical comic cartoon music festival, the Asia-Pacific cosplay carnival, an e-sports show, and a card game competition ensure a complete and engaging experience for enthusiasts.

Several Hong Kong companies in the industry see the event as a chance to extend their presence into the Chinese mainland market and to boost their brand visibility and competitiveness.

The event features a diverse collection of products and intellectual properties. Prominent brands such as Marvel, Transformers, Gundam, EVA, Disney, and the Three Kingdoms series were present. Visitors had the opportunity to discover new models, limited editions, commemorative figures, and exquisite peripherals from these and other renowned franchises.

Regarding the domestic scene, the ACG industry in China has seen rapid expansion and has become a significant player in the global market, fueled by increased consumer spending, technological progress, and government backing.

In order to capitalize on the cultural and creative strengths of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the National Animation Creativity Research and Development Center launched a Greater Bay Area branch in Shenzhen on September 3. This branch collaborates with the robust international intellectual property rights and service trade systems of Hong Kong and Macao to drive the development of the animation and digital creative industries in southern China.

Hong Kong is putting effort into developing its cultural and creative industries, facilitated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau’s Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency. This agency offers various programs that help businesses adopt advanced technologies, form industry partnerships, and engage in global exchanges, including providing a subsidy of up to $30,700 to selected cartoon firms for production and promotion.

The National ACG research center has been instrumental in the advancement and growth of the ACG industry within the nation. Established to encourage innovation and support the amalgamation of culture, technology, and creativity, the center has launched several initiatives to assist the industry.

"The GBA region has a significant influence on and strong consumption power in the animation industry," remarked Chen Xuehui, deputy general manager of China Animation Comic Game Group.
