Wang Yi Calls on France to Promote Favorable China-EU Economic Ties
Wang Yi has called on France to promote constructive economic relations between China and the European Union.
Wang made these comments during a phone conversation on Thursday with Emmanuel Bonne, the diplomatic counselor to the French president.
In response, Bonne conveyed France's perspective and concerns regarding recent developments in EU-China economic and trade dynamics. He emphasized that France places great importance on the cooperative consensus achieved by the leaders of the two nations. Bonne stated that Europe is committed to maintaining its strategic independence, aims to create a fair business environment, and does not intend to exclude Chinese companies and products from its market, expressing hope that a suitable resolution could be reached through discussions.
Wang pointed out that France is a significant economic and trade ally of China within the EU, highlighting that robust China-EU economic and trade ties benefit both parties. He recalled their comprehensive dialogues about China-EU trade frictions during the UN General Assembly, noting their shared conviction that both should strive to avoid a trade conflict and work through dialogue and negotiation to address their differences.
He further asserted that China and France share a comprehensive strategic partnership, with the two leaders having provided essential strategic direction for their bilateral relationship. Wang indicated that, considering the changing international landscape, the relationship between China and France holds distinct strategic importance and global relevance.
Wang expressed confidence in both sides' political acumen to effectively manage differences in specific issues, underscoring the need for mutual respect, cooperative outcomes, and consistent communication, dialogue, and coordination to keep progressing in their bilateral relations.
Additionally, Wang reiterated China's principled position on the Taiwan issue. Bonne confirmed that France respects China's sovereignty and will remain committed to the one-China policy, assuring that this stance will not change.
