Xi asserts "there is no winner" in a tariff war
During a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing on Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that "there is no winner in a tariff war," emphasizing that "going against the world will only result in self-isolation."

Xi highlighted that over the past 70 years, China has developed through self-reliance and persistent effort, never depending on the goodwill of others or fearing irrational suppression.
He asserted that regardless of changes in the external environment, China is determined and will focus on managing its own affairs effectively.
Acknowledging that China and the European Union are significant global economies and strong advocates for economic globalization and free trade, Xi noted the close economic relationship formed between the two regions, which collectively account for more than one-third of the world's economic output.
He urged both China and the EU to carry out their international duties, cooperate to protect economic globalization and the international trading system, and resist unilateral coercion.
According to Xi, this approach not only defends the legitimate rights and interests of both China and the EU but also fosters fairness and justice in the international community while upholding global rules and order.
Sanchez recognized China as a vital partner for the EU and reiterated Spain's consistent support for the stable development of EU-China relations.
He reiterated the EU's commitment to open and free trade, its dedication to multilateralism, and its stance against unilateral tariff increases, stating that "there is no winner in a trade war."
To address the complex challenges in the international arena, Sanchez expressed Spain and the EU's readiness to enhance communication and collaboration with China to uphold international trade order, tackle issues such as climate change and poverty, and protect the shared interests of the global community.
