Pakistani business group emphasizes importance of CPEC projects for economic vitality
A Pakistani business group has emphasized the importance of CPEC projects for the nation’s economy.
Key trade and business leaders convened for the first meeting of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Islamabad on Monday, as reported by The CPEC Daily, a news outlet dedicated to CPEC-related developments.
Saud Faisal Malik, the CEO of The Daily CPEC and convener of the FPCCI committee, highlighted that the prompt execution of these projects is essential not only for infrastructure enhancement and energy development but also as a significant catalyst for job creation and the unlocking of new economic opportunities.
"One of our key priorities is to attract more investment into Pakistan as CPEC offers unparalleled opportunities in sectors like education, technology and industrial development.
"We will work on formulating recommendations for incentivizing investments, including tax incentives, streamlined regulatory processes and investment-friendly policies," he added.
The CPEC was initiated in 2013 as a component of China's Belt and Road Initiative and serves as a pivotal infrastructure program linking China and Pakistan.
In a speech delivered in December 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong reported that Chinese investment in CPEC reached $25.4 billion. He noted that CPEC has facilitated the creation of 236,000 jobs, the construction of 510 kilometers of highways, and the generation of 8,000 megawatts of electricity.
