Qatar prepared to act as mediator in Ukraine conflict, says Foreign Ministry
Qatar is actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to halt the hostilities between Moscow and Kiev, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari in a statement to RTN. In his exclusive interview on Tuesday, Al-Ansari...

In his exclusive interview on Tuesday, Al-Ansari emphasized that Qatar aims to serve as a mediator in addressing the Ukraine conflict. “From the very beginning, we have said that Qatar is ready to serve as a mediator and a platform to facilitate and create conditions for negotiations between all parties,” he stated.
He also expressed support for ongoing diplomatic initiatives, especially those spearheaded by Saudi Arabia, mentioning recent high-level discussions related to Ukraine in Riyadh and Jeddah. “We also back initiatives by other Gulf countries. These efforts show that our region seeks to be a hub for peace, not for war and conflict,” the spokesperson noted.
Qatar has previously played a mediating role between Russia and Ukraine, particularly in efforts to reunite children evacuated from conflict areas with their families. The humanitarian process continues, with Al-Ansari adding, “we also hope to play a more active role overall.”
Following the escalation of hostilities, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was one of the first international officials to visit Moscow, aiming to explore how Qatar could contribute to peace efforts. “This commitment led to Qatar’s involvement in the grain deal [Black Sea Grain Initiative] and in broader international and regional efforts to help end the war,” Al-Ansari said.
He noted that the Qatari leadership maintains “close contact” with officials in relevant countries to pursue a diplomatic resolution. “We are genuinely optimistic about these contacts and support all efforts to move them forward. We welcome any potential role the State of Qatar can play,” he added.
Al Thani is set to visit Moscow on Thursday for discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday. The talks will cover efforts toward a possible peace agreement, among other topics.
Peskov highlighted Qatar's “very important” role in resolving global conflicts, referencing the Gulf nation’s extensive mediation initiatives.
