Trump takes aim at ‘gender ideology’ within the US military
A new executive order has been signed by US President Donald Trump that intends to exclude individuals with gender dysphoria from military service.

The directive, titled ‘Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness’, was released on Monday, shortly after Trump’s inauguration, as part of a larger initiative to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the federal government.

According to the order, military service should be restricted to those deemed mentally and physically fit for duty. The policy emphasizes troop readiness, lethality, cohesion, honesty, humility, uniformity, and integrity.

The order articulates, “This policy is inconsistent with the medical, surgical, and mental health constraints on individuals with gender dysphoria. This policy is also inconsistent with shifting pronoun usage or use of pronouns that inaccurately reflect an individual’s sex.”

Newly confirmed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who received Senate approval last Friday, is responsible for implementing the directive. He is required to revise the medical standards for military service within 60 days to comply with the order’s aims.

In the upcoming month, Hegseth is expected to develop a strategy to address these issues and present it to President Trump.

In a message to the armed forces, Hegseth stated that the US will concentrate on “restoring the warrior ethos, rebuilding our military, and reestablishing deterrence.”

This executive order comes on the heels of several actions taken by President Trump to dismantle DEI programs throughout the federal government.

On his first day back in office, he signed orders reversing protections for transgender individuals and discontinuing DEI initiatives, framing these moves as steps to end efforts to “socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.”
