"Trump Officially Declared 47th US President"
Members of the US Electoral College convened across all 50 states on Tuesday, while Congress is set to tally the electors’ votes on January 6.

The Electoral College has officially confirmed Donald Trump as the victor of November's US presidential election, with the Republican candidate defeating his Democratic opponent, outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, by a margin of 312 to 226. Trump also led the popular vote in the election held on November 5, garnering 77.2 million votes compared to Harris’ 75 million.

In contrast to many democracies, the American public does not directly elect its president; instead, citizens vote for members of the Electoral College, who are selected beforehand by the presidential candidates or their respective parties. In 48 states and the District of Columbia, these electors are required by law to cast their votes in accordance with the popular vote results in their state, irrespective of their party affiliations.

Maine and Nebraska employ a different system, primarily relying on the popular vote results from individual congressional districts.

Most states have regulations that annul the votes of electors who disregard the popular vote.

The Electoral College met in all states on the first Tuesday following the second Wednesday of December, which occurred on December 17 this year.

After the votes are certified, they will be sent to the incumbent vice president, who acts as the president of the Senate. This process must be completed by December 25, 2024.

Once the new Congress convenes, lawmakers will count the Electoral College votes on January 6, with the vice president announcing the election winner.

President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance are scheduled to take the oath of office and be inaugurated at noon on January 20, 2025.

The total number of electors in the Electoral College nationwide has been set at 538 since 1964. To win a presidential election, a candidate must secure at least 270 electoral votes. Each state’s number of electors corresponds to its number of representatives in the House, plus two senators. As populations have changed over time, these numbers have been adjusted in several states.
