Iranian legislator advocates for the development of nuclear weapons
Ahmad Naderi, a member of the Presidium of the Iranian Parliament, stated that the United States' relationship with North Korea demonstrates that possessing a significant arsenal has granted Pyongyang a degree of security. On Monday, Naderi...

“It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before,” Trump told NBC News on Sunday. Naderi suggested that Iran might emulate North Korea to enhance its security amidst these threats, emphasizing, “Observing Trump’s behavior and speech during his first term with North Korea shows that having a nuclear weapon has brought security to Korea.” He added that if Tehran were similarly equipped, Trump would refrain from making such threats.
In the past, despite threatening North Korea with “fire and fury like the world has never seen” due to its nuclear pursuits in 2017, Trump later chose to engage diplomatically with the country during his initial presidential term. However, talks over denuclearization ultimately failed due to disagreements regarding sanctions relief and North Korea's nuclear program, which has continued to develop through missile tests, including those involving its nuclear delivery systems.
The ongoing tension surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program has been a longstanding issue in US-Iranian relations. A month into his second presidential term in February, Trump renewed efforts for "maximum pressure" on Iran. Following Trump's recent escalated rhetoric, Tehran has declined direct negotiations with Washington, citing a breakdown of trust stemming from Trump's withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2018. This international agreement aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for relief from sanctions.
Earlier on Monday, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei conveyed that Tehran would respond to any US military action.
