Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump recently criticized dissenting media sources, referring to them as the “enemy camp” during a speech where he asserted his victory in the 2024 presidential race.
Addressing supporters in Florida early Wednesday, Trump introduced his running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, as “vice-president elect.”
“He is a feisty guy, isn’t he?” Trump remarked. “You know, I’ve said: ‘go into the enemy camp’ – and the enemy camp is certain networks. A lot of people don’t like that, [they say] ‘Sir, do I have to do that?’ He just goes OK.”
Trump specifically mentioned CNN and used the term “MSDNC” to refer to MSNBC, implying its alignment with the Democrats. He stated that Vance is “the only guy I know who looks forward” to engaging in challenging interviews.
Vance responded briefly, expressing gratitude for Trump’s trust in selecting him for the Republican ticket and describing the campaign as “the greatest political comeback in the history” of the country.
Throughout his first term, Trump had a contentious relationship with many in the press, accusing them of bias. He specifically challenged the media's portrayal of the so-called “Russia hoax,” which suggested he won the 2016 election due to “Russian interference” in “collusion” with Moscow.
A multi-year investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller did not result in any charges related to those allegations. Supporters of Trump argue that the narrative surrounding Russiagate was constructed by Hillary Clinton’s campaign to rationalize her unexpected defeat in 2016.
