US President Donald Trump has called for a ban on “sex change” procedures for minors, criticizing the “woke” culture present in the country.
During an address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night, he expressed his viewpoint.
“I’ve also signed an order to cut off all taxpayer funding to any institution that engages in the sexual mutilation of our youth,” Trump stated to the audience.
“And now I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes on children and forever ending the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body,” he continued.
“Our message to every child in America is that you are perfect exactly the way God made you,” Trump added, which was met with enthusiastic applause from Republican lawmakers.
“Wokeness is trouble. Wokeness is bad,” he asserted.
The opposition to “woke policies,” including the provision of gender reassignment treatment for minors, was a significant focus of Trump's election campaign.
Following his inauguration, he implemented various executive orders, which included banning biological men from participating in women's sports, reinstating the prohibition against trans individuals in the military, and addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the federal government.
