Chinese President Xi Jinping asserted on Thursday that unilateralism and hegemonism do not have the approval of the people, while trade wars weaken the multilateral trading system and disrupt the global economic order.

These statements were made during a meeting with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party and Senate President.

Xi emphasized that history demonstrates a clear trend towards a multipolar world, economic globalization, and cultural diversity, noting that no nation wishes to revert to isolation. He reiterated that trade wars compromise the multilateral trading system and disturb the global economic framework, urging countries to unite, safeguard national security and development, promote mutual respect, pursue win-win cooperation, and work collectively to forge a community with a shared future for all mankind.

He highlighted that the establishment of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future is both a historical necessity and a reflection of the people's desires. Xi described China and Cambodia as not just friendly neighbors but as ironclad friends, acknowledging that both nations are currently at a pivotal moment in their national development.

He stressed the importance of prioritizing the well-being of their people and the advancement of humanity, advocating for collaborative efforts that set a precedent for building a community with a shared future while progressing in their modernization efforts. Xi called for both nations to unite as forces for peace, stability, and progress amidst significant global transformations.

According to Xi, China believes that Cambodia's path toward national development and revitalization will continue to expand, and affirmed ongoing support for the Cambodian People's Party in leading the nation towards stability and economic growth. He also expressed that China backs Cambodia in enhancing its role on regional and international platforms.

The Chinese president suggested that the two nations should leverage the newly established "2+2" strategic dialogue mechanism between their foreign and defense ministers to bolster strategic coordination.

He proposed that both sides deepen practical cooperation across various sectors, focusing on advancing projects such as Cambodia's Industrial and Technological Corridor and Fish and Rice Corridor, while enhancing collaboration in energy, transportation, and other key areas to enable Cambodia to gain more from China's developmental opportunities.

Xi reaffirmed China's commitment to engaging in exchanges and mutual learning with Cambodia on important issues, including strengthening party building and advancing reform and development. He voiced a desire to deepen friendly cooperation between China's National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Cambodia's National Assembly and Senate.

As Asia embarks on a new collective revitalization journey, Xi highlighted that China will adhere to the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness, along with the approach of fostering friendships and partnerships with neighboring nations. He pledged to maintain continuity and stability in neighborhood diplomacy, further deepen cooperative ties, and disseminate the benefits of Chinese modernization more broadly throughout the region.

In response, Hun Sen remarked that the visit carries significant importance for Cambodia. He affirmed that China serves as Cambodia's most steadfast supporter and reliable partner, acknowledging the crucial role of China’s support in the country’s economic and social advancements as well as improvements in living standards, expressing deep gratitude on behalf of Cambodia.

Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to the one-China policy, backing China's positions on Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Xizang, while opposing any foreign interference in China's internal matters.

He stated that China and Cambodia, as ironclad friends, are dedicated to making further progress in building a community with a shared future, which will enhance the high-level, high-quality, and high-standard development of their bilateral relations.

Hun Sen expressed confidence that the two nations will always collaborate closely, enduring challenges together and sharing a unified destiny. He conveyed Cambodia’s readiness to strengthen strategic security cooperation with China and expand bilateral trade.

Hun Sen extended a welcome to more Chinese companies seeking to invest in Cambodia, emphasizing a commitment to collaborate with China to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges while intensifying efforts against online gambling and telecom fraud.

He expressed high regard for China's constructive role in promoting global peace and sustainable development, and announced support for Belt and Road cooperation and the three major global initiatives proposed by China, asserting their benefits for the common interests of the international community and for promoting global peace, security, and stability. Additionally, he noted that trade and tariff wars have harmed the legitimate interests of all nations and sparked international turmoil, expressing Cambodia's willingness to enhance cooperation with China to jointly tackle various risks and challenges.
