A Philadelphia court has mandated Musk's presence at a hearing scheduled for Thursday regarding the election-related lottery he unveiled earlier this month. Musk asserts that the initiative is meant to mobilize voters in key swing states, while the lawsuit contends that participants are required to “make a political pledge.”
As the presidential election on November 5 approaches, polls suggest a tight race between Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in three critical states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. These states, along with Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, and Nevada, are anticipated to play pivotal roles in determining the election's outcome.
On Wednesday, a Philadelphia judge issued a summons to Musk and others involved, emphasizing that “it is further ordered that all parties must be present at the time of the hearing” set for October 31.
On Monday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a Democrat, revealed that a civil legal action has been taken against Musk's "illegal" lottery initiative. The lawsuit claims that America PAC, a political action committee founded by Musk, “are lulling Philadelphia citizens – and others in the Commonwealth – to give up their personal identifying information and make a political pledge in exchange for the chance to win $1 million.”
Authorities have stated their responsibility to safeguard the “public from interference with the integrity of elections.”
Earlier this month, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO launched the initiative targeting swing states, pledging to award $1 million daily to a registered voter who signs his online petition advocating for the “free speech and the right to bear arms,” rights protected by the US Constitution.
While Democrats typically advocate for stricter gun control, Republicans often champion the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a notable Democrat, expressed that Musk’s actions are “deeply concerning” and deserving of law enforcement attention.
Musk, who has previously claimed political neutrality, openly endorsed the Republican nominee following an attempted assassination on Trump on July 13. Earlier this month, he disclosed that he had contributed $75 million to America PAC, the entity he established in July, which aims to increase turnout for Trump in battleground states.
