Trump accuses Zuckerberg of conspiring against him in the 2020 election in his upcoming book
Earlier this week, the CEO of Meta claimed that the Biden administration sought to “pressure” the company into downplaying content related to Covid.
This latest assertion is part of Trump’s ongoing criticism of Zuckerberg, whom he has accused multiple times of influencing the previous presidential election. This criticism coincides with Meta's efforts to reassure conservatives regarding its stance for the upcoming campaign.
“Save America,” a coffee table book authored by Trump, is set for release on September 3 and includes an undated photograph of Trump and Zuckerberg from a White House meeting. Accompanying the photo, Trump writes that Zuckerberg “would come to the Oval Office to see me. He would bring his very nice wife to dinners, be as nice as anyone could be, while always plotting to install shameful Lock Boxes in a true PLOT AGAINST THE PRESIDENT.” This remark pertains to a $420 million contribution made by Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, to support election infrastructure during the 2020 election.
“He told me there was nobody like Trump on Facebook. But at the same time, and for whatever reason, steered it against me,” Trump claims. “We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time he will spend the rest of his life in prison — as will others who cheat in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
Trump has expressed similar sentiments regarding Zuckerberg in the past. He noted in a July post on Truth Social that, if elected, he would seek out “ELECTION FRAUDSTERS at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time. We already know who you are. DON’T DO IT! ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!”
A Meta spokesperson did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Republicans have criticized Meta for allegedly suppressing content detrimental to President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, particularly concerning reports related to his son, Hunter. During that time, the FBI cautioned that such coverage might have been part of a Russian effort to sway the election.
In a letter sent Monday to the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg admitted that it was a mistake to have demoted that story. He stated it has “since been made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in retrospect, we shouldn’t have demoted the story.”
Additionally, Zuckerberg mentioned in the same letter that the Biden administration had attempted to “pressure” Meta to downplay certain Covid-19-related content, which he indicated was “wrong” for the White House to do. He also vowed not to make similar contributions for election infrastructure in this year’s election while clarifying that the funding was not designed to be perceived as partisan.
“Save America” is published by Winning Team Publishing, co-founded by Donald Trump Jr. and Trump ally Sergio Gor.
