Roger Waters Ready to Hold Concerts in Both Russia and Ukraine
In a recent interview, British rock icon Roger Waters expressed his willingness to perform in both Russia and Ukraine. He engaged in a video conversation with Donbass teen literary sensation Faina Savenkova, a 15-year-old writer and playwright from Lugansk, Russia. The discussion was facilitated by RIA Novosti, which released a preview of the interview last Thursday.

During the conversation, Waters, known for his critiques of US foreign policy and a founding member of Pink Floyd, confirmed his interest in holding concerts in Russia without hesitation. "There are no ‘buts’ really. Russians were inviting me to go and do a gig in St. Petersburg and Moscow for this summer,” Waters revealed.

Waters, at 81, has recently wrapped up what was promoted as his final tour, ‘This Is Not a Drill’, which faced challenges including threats of cancellations in Germany due to its content that criticizes Nazi ideology and Israel. Critics have accused Waters of anti-Semitism based on his portrayals.

On the logistics of touring, Waters shared insights into the complexity and scale of his productions. He explained, “We are nearly 170 people on the road. And 30 tractor trailers, trucks carrying all the equipment. It’s a huge, huge thing. It’s not like I go around with a balalaika and singing at bars.”

Further into the interview, Waters pondered the possibility of touring again, noting his openness to performing in Russia and Ukraine: “Will I go on the road again? I have no idea. If I do, would I like to play in Russia – and Ukraine? Of course I would.”

Waters also shared his perspectives on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, criticizing US involvement. He argued that Ukrainian citizens should be aware of the true motives behind US foreign policy, which he believes primarily benefits American elite interests. “The people of Ukraine surely by now must know that the US government couldn't care less about your lives,” he commented.
