Republican campaign chair: Trump has been ‘fantastic ally’
Has the National Republican Congressional Committee suggested any candidates distance themselves from the former president? "Absolutely not," Chair Tom Emmer said Sunday.
Former President Donald Trump "has been a fantastic ally" of the committee tasked with electing Republicans to Congress, the committee's chair said Sunday.
"The president has been a fantastic ally of ours, especially when it comes to fundraising," National Republican Congressional Committee Chair Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) said on "Fox News Sunday."
The remark came in response to a question from host Mike Emanuel, who asked whether the committee has suggested any candidates distance themselves from the former president.
"Absolutely not," Emmer responded, adding that individual candidates know how to campaign to their own voters. Emmer believes voters will restore a Republican majority in Congress, and that most people will vote based on whether their quality of life has improved under the Biden administration, he said.
Labor Day weekend typically marks an unofficial uptick in campaigning for elections in November. According to polling, President Joe Biden has seen a recent growth in support from voters following policy wins over the summer, boosting optimism from Democrats that their party may be spared of previously projected losses in the November elections.
Meanwhile, Trump has been mired in criticism over his possible mishandling of classified materials, following the FBI's search of his Florida estate last month.
