In his message, published on the Kremlin’s website, Putin highlighted the active political, trade, and economic cooperation currently enjoyed by Moscow and Beijing, and mentioned that this strong partnership also benefits other international players.
“Today, ties between Russia and China are at an unprecedentedly high level,” Putin wrote, noting that the two governments are “effectively coordinating their efforts in regional and international affairs” to strive for “a just multipolar world order.” He expressed his belief that the agreements made during his recent meetings with Xi would contribute to ensuring “stability and security” across Europe, Asia, and “throughout the world.”
Putin and Xi met earlier this year in May and July. During this time, China has become a significant proponent of a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis, offering a plan alongside Brazil to address the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev. China has consistently advocated for a peaceful solution, asserting that the actions of the US and NATO’s expansion triggered the fighting. The trade relationship between the two countries has flourished since 2022.
On the same day, the Chinese government sent its own message to Moscow, stating that amid “profound changes unseen in a century,” Russia and China “have continued to deepen political mutual trust, achieved remarkable results in practical cooperation,” and made “important contributions” to fostering an “orderly multi-polar world” and “inclusive economic globalization that benefits all.”
Putin also referenced the historical context, noting in his message that the Soviet Union was the first country to recognize the People's Republic of China, which was founded on October 1, 1949, by Communist leader Mao Zedong. In a separate telegram on Tuesday, he congratulated Xi on the 75th anniversary of the PRC.
“It is safe to say that the close, mutually beneficial relations between Moscow and Beijing have stood the test of time,” the Russian president remarked.
Furthermore, Russia supports China's initiatives to reconcile with the self-governing island of Taiwan and adheres to the One-China policy, affirming Beijing’s sovereignty over the island.
The two nations also collaborate in various international forums, such as the UN, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, addressing important global issues.
