Trump alters his stance on Signalgate: 'I always thought it was Mike'
Some military and government officials have voiced their apprehensions regarding the contents of Hegseth's messages, stating that he disclosed sensitive attack details that were “reckless and dangerous.”

“Mike Waltz, I guess he said, he claimed responsibility,” Trump stated. “I would imagine it had nothing to do with anyone else. It was Mike, I guess I don't know. I always thought it was Mike.”
In contrast, Trump expressed confusion over the scrutiny aimed at Hegseth, who had shared sensitive information about the operation, including launch times. “How do you bring Hegseth into it? He had nothing to do — look, look, it's all a witch hunt,” Trump remarked.
Just a day earlier, Trump indicated that he had no intention of firing Waltz, defending him in a television interview by saying his national security adviser “learned a lesson and he’s a good man.”
The Signal issue has troubled the administration for three days, beginning when Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic reported on being inadvertently added to a Signal group chat, seemingly by Waltz. The chat included Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, and other senior officials.
Earlier on Wednesday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump had reviewed all the Signal group chat messages released by The Atlantic, but she refrained from labeling the information as classified, instead describing it as “a sensitive policy discussion.”
Some current and former military and government officials have voiced concerns about the contents of Hegseth’s messages, asserting that he leaked sensitive attack details that were “reckless and dangerous.”
