President Xi Emphasizes the Improvement of Inclusive Public Services for Citizens
Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the need to improve inclusive public services for the population.
In a recent directive concerning civil affairs work, Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the importance of strengthening public services designed to meet the essential needs of the populace and to ensure basic living standards for those facing difficulties.
Praising the significant progress made in various aspects of civil affairs in recent years, Xi urged Party committees and governments at all levels to adopt a people-centered approach in addressing the most practical issues that concern the public directly.
He called on civil affairs departments at all levels to actively implement a national strategy to address the challenges posed by an aging population and to enhance efforts in social assistance, social welfare, social affairs, and social governance.
Xi also stressed the necessity for civil affairs departments to proactively increase benefits for the people, addressing their needs and helping them navigate through difficulties.
His directive was presented at a national civil affairs conference held in Beijing from Friday to Saturday. Premier Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also addressed the conference.
Li emphasized that advancing Chinese modernization necessitates the ongoing improvement of civil affairs work to protect and promote the immediate interests of diverse groups, including those in hardship and individuals with disabilities. He underscored the importance of conducting civil affairs work with deep empathy for the people and achieving tangible progress that satisfies the populace.
He also called for coordinated efforts to plan and implement reforms aimed at fostering innovation within the civil affairs sector.
During the conference, State Councilor Shen Yiqin highlighted the need for further improvements in social assistance systems and elderly care services. She also stressed the significance of deepening reforms in funeral services and related areas, as well as promoting charitable initiatives.
In recognition of their contributions, exemplary individuals and groups within the civil affairs sector were honored at the conference.
