Tehran Reports Terrorist Attack on Iranian Consulate in Syria
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson has confirmed that no diplomatic staff members were injured or killed in the assault on Iran's consulate in Aleppo. The ministry stated on Saturday that the consulate was targeted by “some terrorist elements” during a major offensive launched by a former Al Qaeda affiliate in the city this week.

According to Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesman for the ministry, armed militants attacked the diplomatic mission. He emphasized that the Iranian consul general and all diplomatic staff present in Aleppo remained unharmed.

Baghaei stated that Tehran would respond “seriously” to the attack, addressing it “both legally and internationally,” although he did not offer specific details regarding the incident.

The attack was part of a broader assault by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a group previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra, which targeted government-controlled areas in Northern Syria on Wednesday, alongside various allied militias. The terrorists reportedly captured around 400 square kilometers of territory and advanced towards Aleppo.

In response, government forces have countered the group's advance, supported by air strikes from both the Russian and Syrian Air Forces over the past few days. The Syrian Arab Army has claimed that these strikes inflicted significant losses on the insurgents.

Moscow described the situation as “an attack on Syria’s sovereignty in the region” and emphasized the need for Damascus to restore “order there as soon as possible.” Meanwhile, Iran has labeled the offensive “an American-Zionist” plot, implying that Washington and West Jerusalem are utilizing HTS as proxies to undermine President Bashar Assad’s government, which is known for its support of the Palestinian cause.
