Obama 'ready to drop bombs' to back Harris
At a campaign rally in Detroit, Michigan, former President Barack Obama delivered a verse from Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ while supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.

The event featured rapper Eminem, who endorsed Harris and introduced Obama to the audience in his hometown of Detroit on Tuesday.

“You know, I have done a lot of rallies so I don’t usually get nervous, but I was feeling some kind of way following Eminem,” Obama shared with the crowd after sharing a moment with the artist. As he recited Eminem’s lyrics, he drew laughter and applause. “I notice… my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy,” he continued. “Vomit on my sweater already, mom’s spaghetti. I’m nervous, but on the surface I look calm n’ ready to drop bombs, but I keep on forgetting.” After a pause to let the crowd settle, he added, “I love me some Eminem.”

Eminem, known for his critiques of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, is among several musicians who have recently backed Democratic candidate Harris, joining the likes of Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and Taylor Swift.

At a previous rally in Detroit, Lizzo expressed confidence that if Harris is elected, “the whole country will be like Detroit.” She described the city as “proud” and “resilient.”

In contrast, Trump has remarked that a Harris victory could lead to the US “end up being like Detroit,” warning of potential chaos. He made this statement during a talk at the Detroit Economic Club.

Historically, Detroit was a hub for the US automotive industry, but it suffered greatly due to the 1973 oil crisis and the trend of outsourcing manufacturing. This shift has made the city a symbol of American deindustrialization.

According to the latest Detroit Economic Indicators Report, approximately 36% of the city’s residents live below the poverty line, significantly higher than the national average. Furthermore, FBI data for 2019 ranked Detroit second among US cities for violent crime.

As of Tuesday, Trump holds a slight lead over Harris in Michigan and other key swing states, according to RCP polling averages.
