NBC reports enhanced protection for Trump – "Trump's protection to be enhanced"
The Secret Service is set to enhance security measures for former US President Donald Trump after the second assassination attempt on him in just two months. Read Full Article at RT.com.
In July, during a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump was targeted by a lone gunman who fired several shots, narrowly missing him and grazing his ear, resulting in the death of one audience member and injuries to two others.
Earlier this month, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested by the Secret Service after he was seen near a Trump-owned golf course in Florida, seemingly attempting to take a shot at the former president. Authorities discovered that Routh was in possession of a Soviet-made rifle along with a backpack filled with armor plates.
“Given recent events, the Secret Service is taking a heightened posture in its protection of the former president,” an agency official stated.
According to NBC News, new security protocols have already been implemented, observed when Trump disembarked from his plane in Pennsylvania, escorted closely by a Secret Service agent.
In addition, the US House of Representatives recently passed a bill aimed at increasing Secret Service protections for all presidential nominees, including Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, and their running mates.
The newly proposed legislation mandates that the Secret Service apply “the same standards for determining the number of agents required to protect presidents, vice presidents, and major presidential and vice presidential candidates.”
“We as a federal government have a responsibility to ensure the safety and the well-being of these candidates. One of them is going to be president, and the election should be decided by voters at the ballot box — not by an assassin’s bullet,” Congressman Mike Lawler, who introduced the bill, remarked to reporters on Friday. “If the argument by the Secret Service is that they don’t have enough resources or they don’t have enough manpower, then that needs to be addressed immediately,” he added.
