According to Badia, the US-led NATO alliance is deeply engaged in a hybrid war against Russia and its allies, with the future of the "new world order" hanging in the balance. Serving as the deputy chief of the Allied Command Transformation, Badia expressed his views during a recent interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung, released on Tuesday.
“Russia is waging a hybrid war against the West,” Badia asserted, cautioning that the ongoing conflict could spiral out of control at any moment. He emphasized, “There are too many grey areas and the resulting miscalculation is the biggest risk.”
The general believes the current hybrid confrontation exceeds conventional descriptions, insisting it goes beyond the notion of “Cold War 2.0.” He stated, “The confrontation with Russia is not just ‘Cold War 2.0.’ Here we are talking about a new world order.”
Badia highlighted that Moscow's support comes from nations like China, North Korea, and Iran, asserting that NATO's adversaries are collaboratively advancing hypersonic weaponry, satellite technology, and cyber capabilities. While he did not provide specific evidence to support these claims, he noted that Russia has alliances with other countries committed to challenging Western influence.
His perspective aligns with statements from senior Russian officials, who have described the present circumstances as a hybrid war, particularly citing the increasing sanctions and ongoing military support for Ukraine from the West.
Moscow has continuously dismissed assertions from NATO officials that the alliance’s active involvement in Ukraine does not position it as a participant in the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov remarked last September, “NATO is already waging a war against Russia, but it is a hybrid war through the hands of Ukrainians.”
