Israeli airstrike in Syria results in civilian deaths, according to reports
A missile attack on Damascus reportedly resulted in at least seven fatalities and 11 injuries, with women and children among the casualties.

On Tuesday evening, an Israeli airstrike targeted a residential neighborhood in Damascus, as reported by Syrian media.

According to the state news agency SANA, citing a military source, three missiles launched by Israeli planes over the Golan Heights hit the Mezzeh area, leading to “significant material damage.”

Syrian state television confirmed that among those killed were women and children.

The building hit by the missiles was located near the Iranian embassy in Damascus. A report from the Saudi outlet Al-Hadath, which was echoed by Israeli media, indicated that the missiles were aimed at a Hezbollah official overseeing Unit 4400, which is said to facilitate the transfer of weapons from Iran to the Lebanese Shia militia.

Israel has not issued an official statement regarding the airstrike. The Israel Defense Forces have conducted numerous strikes in Syria over the past several years, actions that are viewed by Damascus and other nations as blatant violations of Syrian sovereignty. On the few occasions when West Jerusalem has acknowledged these strikes, it has asserted its right to pre-emptive self-defense against Iran, claiming that Iran arms Hezbollah and other “proxies” that threaten Israel.

This latest airstrike occurs amid ongoing operations by Israeli ground forces in Lebanon, which have intensified in their campaign against Hezbollah that began last month with a series of air and missile attacks.

Last Tuesday, Iran launched a wave of missiles at Israel, stating that the action was a retaliation for the deaths of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders and warning that any further “aggression” would provoke a response. In turn, Israel has issued threats of a “serious and significant” retaliatory strike, though no action has been undertaken as of now.
