Iran will retaliate against US 'threats,' says Khamenei
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has issued a stark warning regarding potential US-hostile actions, stating that Tehran will implement retaliatory measures in response. He dismissed the notion of engaging in dialogue with Washington, asserting that it would be "neither wise, intelligent, nor honorable."

Since resuming office, US President Donald Trump has reinstated a "maximum pressure" policy aimed at Iran, claiming that Tehran aims to develop nuclear weapons. Recently, Washington imposed additional sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry, focusing on an international network that supports the delivery of Iranian oil to China.

During a meeting with Iranian air force personnel in Tehran on Friday, Khamenei remarked that “the Americans sit and redraw the world map on paper – but it is only on paper, with no basis in reality.” He emphasized that any threats from the US would provoke a reciprocal response from Iran. “If they threaten us, we will threaten them. If they act on those threats, we will do the same. If they undermine our nation’s security, we will undoubtedly respond in kind,” he stated.

In contrast, Trump expressed a desire for negotiations with Tehran to establish a “verified nuclear peace agreement, which will let Iran peacefully grow and prosper.” The US President also attempted to downplay reports suggesting cooperation between the US and Israel aimed at aggressive actions against Iran, stating those claims are “greatly exaggerated.”

Nevertheless, Khamenei reiterated his stance against negotiating with the current US administration, emphasizing that it would be “neither wise, intelligent, nor honorable.” He argued that Tehran had been “very generous” and had made various “concessions” during the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action negotiations, where Iran agreed to curtail its military nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions. Khamenei pointed out that “the same person who is in power now tore up the treaty,” referring to Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the agreement in 2018.

The 85-year-old leader stressed that negotiations with the US will not resolve the country's issues, warning against the misconception that discussions with the government will bring about solutions. “Negotiations with the US have no impact on solving the country’s problems. We must understand this correctly and not be misled into thinking that sitting at the negotiation table with that government will resolve certain issues. No, negotiations with the US will not solve any problems,” he asserted.
