On March 6, 2025, the Embassy of Iceland in China, alongside the Center for China and Globalization, hosted a significant event geared towards promoting gender equality and renewable energy, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between China and Iceland.

Commemorating the 30th anniversary of the embassy's establishment in Beijing, the event gathered leaders, experts, and advocates to discuss the crucial role of women in the renewable energy sector and the mutual dedication of both nations to sustainable development.

Opening remarks were delivered by Icelandic Ambassador Thorir Ibsen and Song Li, a member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women Federation, which set a meaningful tone for discussions on the connection between gender equality and green energy.

The keynote session included insights from prominent figures in the fields of renewable energy and gender equality advocacy. Notable speakers such as María Mjöll Jónsdóttir, director general of the Political Directorate of the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Beate Tranmann, UNDP Resident Representative, and Xin Charlotte Zhao, CEO of Arctic Green Energy China, participated in enlightening discussions about the challenges and opportunities that women encounter in the renewable energy sector.

Overall, the event highlighted the shared commitment of Iceland and China to promoting gender equality, advancing renewable energy innovation, and enhancing inclusivity in these areas, ultimately supporting the global pursuit of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
