Ex-FM Suggests Canada Obtain Nuclear Protection Against the US
Former Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland has stated that European nuclear powers could offer protection to Canada against potential threats from the US. Read Full Article at RT.com.

Freeland, who has a background as a FT Moscow correspondent and is known for her strong support of Ukraine, labeled US President Donald Trump's recent remarks questioning Canada’s sovereignty as a national security threat.
”What is different about this unleashed and empowered President Trump is he is clearly threatening our sovereignty and we need to respond,” she stated. “The US is turning predator, and so what Canada needs to do is work closely with our democratic allies, our military allies.”
Freeland, whose grandfather was the Ukrainian editor of a Nazi-controlled newspaper during World War II, has emerged as a prominent voice on foreign policy matters and was previously considered for a leadership role within NATO.
In her debate remarks, she emphasized the importance of partnering with Nordic nations, specifically mentioning Denmark, which she says is also under threat, as well as other European NATO allies.
”I would be sure that France and Britain were there who possess nuclear weapons, and I would be working urgently with those partners to build a closer security relationship that guarantees our security in a time when the United States can be a threat,” Freeland explained.
Trump's statements, alongside comments from figures like Elon Musk, have contributed to a growing wave of anti-US sentiment in Canada. For instance, some Toronto coffee shops have protested by rebranding the Americano as ‘Canadiano.’
Canada is preparing for a government vote this year, and Freeland, whose resignation from Trudeau’s cabinet last December is seen as a factor leading to his own resignation, is challenging three other candidates for leadership of the party.
As a veteran foreign policy advocate, Freeland has been critical of Trudeau for not adequately addressing Trump’s threats, including the possibility of trade tariffs.
