Vedomosti newspaper reported that a total of 1.31 billion cubic meters of gas were transported via this route in October. Gazprom's data indicates that the average daily volume of Russian gas supplies through the Ukrainian gas transmission system last month was 42.3 million cubic meters, marking a 5% increase compared to October 2023.
Despite the EU imposing sanctions on Moscow following the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022 and prioritizing efforts to reduce reliance on Russian energy, gas deliveries to the bloc persist nearly three years later.
Currently, the transit line through Ukraine along with the European branch of TurkStream are the only pipelines through which Russian gas can supply central and southern Europe.
Kiev has announced it does not plan to extend its current transit agreement with Gazprom when it expires at the end of this year.
Earlier this week, Hungary, an EU member state, revealed it had imported 6.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas via TurkStream this year, with Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stating, “This is the largest volume of gas to date” in annual terms.
Additionally, last month, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators reported that the share of Russian liquefied natural gas in the EU market rose to 20% this year, an increase of 6% compared to 2023.
