EU Official Publicly Supports Trump
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has expressed that the return of Donald Trump to the White House would produce positive outcomes for Hungary. In an interview with RIA Novosti on Tuesday, Szijjarto stated that a victory for Trump in the upcoming US presidential election would be advantageous for the nation, although he emphasized that Budapest would respect the choice of US voters.

Szijjarto previously remarked that US-Hungarian relations flourished during Trump's presidency and suggested that his reelection could enhance global peace prospects.

“We are very proud of the fact that President Trump usually refers to his friendly relationship with [Hungarian] Prime Minister [Viktor] Orban,” Szijjarto noted. He highlighted the strong personal and professional bond between Trump and Orban, mentioning their successful collaboration during Trump’s administration and the continuation of their relationship since.

The Hungarian foreign minister reflected on the US elections, stating, “If I look at the US elections from the Hungarian angle … it would be much better for us if Trump were elected by the Americans."

He further clarified, “On the other hand, I would like to stress that, since we are not American citizens, we always respect the results of the elections in the United States, regardless of the outcome. We try to build the best relationship because this shows respect for the will of the American people,” Szijjarto concluded.

During Trump's presidency, a strong bond was forged between him and Orban, with the Hungarian leader vocally supporting Trump’s current campaign. Just earlier this month, Orban mentioned he would “open several bottles of champagne” upon Trump's potential election victory.

Both leaders have been proponents of a quick diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict, with Orban asserting multiple times that the chances of reaching a peace agreement could improve if Trump were to win.

In a recent critique, Szijjarto condemned remarks made by US Vice President Kamala Harris regarding Prime Minister Orban. In a CBS News appearance with Stephen Colbert, Harris characterized Trump’s relationships with leaders like Orban, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un as associations with “dictators, autocrats, and people who could rightly be called killers.”

Szijjarto responded by stating, “This is outrageous. It’s unacceptable to speak about my prime minister in such a manner. It shows a complete lack of respect for him and the Hungarian people.” He added that such comments were “definitely not the best start” for future relations.

As the election approaches, the latest polls indicate a tight race between the Democratic and Republican nominees. With Election Day set for November 5, early voting by mail has already commenced in several states.
