Environmental activists vandalize Heathrow Airport (VIDEO)
Ten demonstrators were apprehended near the airport last week, suspected of attempting to disrupt its operations.

Two Just Stop Oil activists were detained at London’s Heathrow airport on Tuesday after they sprayed orange paint on passenger information screens and other fixtures at the airport, according to police reports.

The organization stated that this protest was part of a larger campaign aimed at disrupting airports during the summer holidays to advocate for the cessation of fossil fuel use by 2030.

One of the activists was Phoebe Plummer, who is currently out on conditional bail after a Southwark judge found her guilty of causing criminal damage to Vincent van Gogh’s iconic ‘Sunflowers’ painting during a 2022 protest. The bail conditions prohibited her from possessing paint, glue, or any adhesive substance in public, as reported by the BBC last week.

Footage shared on the Just Stop Oil account on X (formerly Twitter) shows two activists spraying orange paint on passenger information screens, windows, and floors of the airport, using pressurized paint from containers resembling fire extinguishers.

On their website, the movement described the action as part of a broader international ‘Oil Kills’ initiative by them and other activist groups, aimed at ending the use of fossil fuels by the end of the decade.

“21 groups across 12 countries have taken action at 18 airports so far,” the organization stated. Media reports indicate that these incidents have led to numerous flight cancellations or diversions at various airports across Europe, as activists glued themselves to landing strips and performed other disruptive acts.

Last week, ten activists from Just Stop Oil were arrested outside Heathrow and charged with “conspiring to interfere with key national infrastructure,” stated London’s Metropolitan Police on X. “Eight were remanded in custody with two released on bail,” they added.

This recent action follows another stunt by Just Stop Oil two weeks ago, where two activists vandalized the prehistoric Stonehenge landmark in southwest England with orange paint. The group's other protests have included throwing soup at priceless artworks and gluing themselves to paintings.
