Elon Musk Ditches California Due to Trans Law

Governor Gavin Newsom of California recently signed the SAFETY Act, which is intended to protect the privacy of gay and transgender students by preventing the "forced outing" of these individuals in schools. The legislation bars educators from informing parents about their children's use of different names or pronouns than those on their birth certificates.
The law has been met with significant criticism, with detractors claiming it violates parental rights. Reacting to the legislation, Musk expressed his disapproval on X, stating, “This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.”
In addition to relocating SpaceX, Musk also plans to move X's headquarters from San Francisco to Austin, Texas. He cited the ongoing issues with crime and drug abuse in San Francisco as further reasons for the move, emphasizing the difficulty of navigating through the city.
Previously, Musk had shifted Tesla's headquarters from Palo Alto, California, to Austin in 2021 and moved his personal residence to Texas in 2020. His decisions have been influenced by a desire to escape what he describes as coastal liberalism and to benefit from Texas' lack of state income tax on his personal earnings.
Musk has been vocally critical of policies and conditions in California, including expressing his concerns about the influence of liberal ideologies on his transgender daughter and his opposition to child sex changes. He has vowed to lobby against making irreversible changes to children without consent, highlighting his ongoing commitment to these issues.
