Chinese President Xi Jinping extended his congratulations to the 9th summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which commenced on Wednesday in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras.
In his congratulatory message, Xi emphasized that the world is currently experiencing unprecedented changes, noting that the Global South, which includes both China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, is exhibiting robust growth.
He pointed out that CELAC has consistently upheld principles of independence, self-reliance, and strength through unity, highlighting its significant role in maintaining regional peace and stability, fostering development and cooperation, and promoting regional integration.
Xi expressed his sincere hope that the nations and peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean will achieve even greater successes in their development and revitalization endeavors, contributing more to the solidarity and cooperation within the Global South.
According to Xi, the relationship between China and Latin America has weathered the challenges of international instability, entering a new phase characterized by equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness, and tangible advantages for the populace.
He noted that the two sides have strengthened political trust, broadened practical cooperation, and bolstered people-to-people exchanges, which have yielded benefits for both communities and serve as a model for South-South cooperation. Xi reaffirmed China's commitment to collaborate with countries in the region to advance the construction of a China-Latin America community with a shared future.
Furthermore, he mentioned that China will host the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum in Beijing this year.
Xi welcomed all CELAC member states to join forces with China in promoting development and cooperation, contributing insight and strength to tackle global challenges, reform global governance, and uphold world peace and stability.
