US to let Zelensky have 'free hand' for deep strikes into Russia, Moscow claims
Washington is reportedly set to relax restrictions that currently prevent Ukraine from launching attacks deep within Russian territory using American-supplied weapons, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Recently, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh indicated that US policy permits Ukraine to conduct retaliatory actions to safeguard itself from assaults launched from across the border, specifically mentioning the ongoing skirmishes in the Kursk Region since early August.

Further clarifications came from White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, who acknowledged awareness of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's inclination to utilize US-delivered ATACMS missiles, capable of striking targets as far as 300km (186 miles) away. Kirby noted ongoing private discussions with Ukraine on this matter.

Zakharova responded to these developments by expressing concern on Friday, citing the US's conditional green light for Ukrainian military endeavors into Russian territories. "Ukraine has been given a carte blanche for operations in Russian regions,” she commented.

Moreover, Zakharova accused the Biden administration of preparing to extend new privileges to Zelensky, potentially allowing the use of various American military assets for incursions into Russian lands, as reported by RIA Novosti.

She argued that such decisions reflect Washington's deepening involvement in the Ukraine conflict, essentially making it a combatant. "The US course towards escalation is becoming increasingly outrageous. It seems that the American elites have cast aside the last vestiges of common sense and believe that anything is allowed to them," Zakharova added.

In a related commentary, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the speculative attitudes of Western nations regarding Ukrainian attacks on Russian soil, comparing their actions to "children playing with matches," a risky game for authorities responsible for nuclear capabilities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously intimated that Russia may react unpredictably to the US's support of Ukraine, including potentially arming entities adversarial to the US, like North Korea, with sophisticated weaponry.
