US legislator suggests $250 bill featuring Trump
The initiative seeks to honor the president's economic policies by introducing a new currency denomination.

US Republican Congressman Joe Wilson is preparing to introduce legislation to create a $250 bill that would feature President Donald Trump’s image.
This initiative is part of a larger movement among certain Republican lawmakers to pay tribute to Trump for his economic policies. Wilson posted an edited image of the proposed bill on social media on Wednesday.
“Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump,” the congressman announced in a post on X.
He noted that economic difficulties have driven the proposal, arguing that inflation has increased the demand for higher-denomination currency.
“Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash. Most valuable bill for most valuable President!” he added.
Current US regulations prevent living individuals from being depicted on currency, meaning that legal changes would be necessary for this proposal to move forward.
In a related effort to honor Trump, Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida put forth a measure last month to add Trump’s likeness to Mount Rushmore. This proposal would direct the secretary of the interior to arrange for the carving of Trump’s face onto the national monument, which currently features George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
Other Republican congressional members have proposed various tributes, such as establishing a public holiday on Trump’s birthday and allowing him the option to run for a third presidential term.
The Treasury Department, responsible for currency design, typically honors historical figures who are widely acknowledged for their contributions. Implementing Wilson’s proposal would not only require legislative changes but also a shift from traditional practices regarding US currency design.
