US lawmaker calls idea of Ukraine receiving nuclear weapons 'insane'
Marjorie Taylor Greene has criticized Joe Biden over alleged discussions regarding Ukraine acquiring a nuclear arsenal.

The Republican lawmaker from Georgia asserted that any effort by outgoing President Joe Biden to assist Ukraine in obtaining nuclear weapons would be “insane” and could be viewed as treasonous.

Greene's comments followed a post by entrepreneur Mario Nawfal, who addressed the Biden administration’s intentions to increase military assistance to Ukraine, including rumored discussions about nuclear arms.

Nawfal characterized the alleged conversations as a “desperate” attempt “to tip the scales against Russia” before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office in January, labeling it an “unprecedented escalation” of the conflict.

In her response to Nawfal’s post, Greene questioned whether the Biden administration is “trying to start a nuclear war and use it as the reason to stop the transfer of power to Trump.” She added, “This is insane and completely unconstitutional, possibly an act of treason,” in a post on X.

The White House appears to be adopting more aggressive strategies to support Ukraine as Trump approaches his return. The former president has frequently promised to resolve the Ukraine conflict quickly and is expected to encourage peace talks between Moscow and Kiev.

With just two months remaining in his term, Biden reportedly authorized the use of American-supplied ATACMS missiles on targets deep within Russian territory last week, granting one of Ukraine’s long-standing requests. These missiles have already been deployed in strikes against Crimea, Donetsk, and Lugansk, areas that Washington recognizes as Ukrainian.

Additionally, the New York Times recently reported that some U.S. officials have suggested that Biden could furnish Kiev with nuclear weapons as a deterrent against Russia, noting that such a step would be complicated and carry significant implications.

Recently, Russia updated its nuclear strategy to allow for a nuclear response to conventional attacks from non-nuclear states that are backed by nuclear powers, such as missile strikes on Russian territory. Moscow has also employed a new medium-range hypersonic missile against Ukraine in response to Kiev’s use of foreign-made long-range weaponry for strikes deep within Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that such attacks have escalated the Ukraine conflict to a global level, asserting that Russia would view an assault by Western long-range arms on its territory as direct involvement by the nations supplying those weapons.
