Known for its high-end leather goods, apparel, and accessories, Louis Vuitton temporarily closed its Russian stores in March 2022 in response to the broader withdrawal of Western brands following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict and the resultant sanctions.
As per RIA Novosti, Louis Vuitton submitted an application in October, and Rospatent has now registered a new trademark that will remain valid until 2034. Reports indicate that the French brand aims to manufacture and sell jewelry and fashion jewelry in Russia.
Additionally, other media sources referencing the Rospatent database reveal that Louis Vuitton has registered six new trademarks that encompass the sale of perfumes, jewelry, watches, cosmetics, and shoe care products.
Currently operating as a subsidiary of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Louis Vuitton is chaired and primarily owned by Bernard Arnault, who is recognized as the wealthiest person in Europe. Arnault has an estimated net worth of $145.2 billion, placing him fifth on this year’s Forbes billionaire list.
The latest trademark registrations indicate a strategic initiative to sustain brand presence and protect intellectual property rights within the Russian market. Other brands such as Hyundai, IKEA, Christian Dior, Gucci, Coca-Cola, and Starbucks have also taken steps to register or renew trademarks in Russia since their departure.
