The Pentagon will also deploy other assets to the region to compensate for the scheduled departure of its carrier strike group.

The US military is preparing to send additional forces to the Middle East, including several nuclear-capable B-52H strategic bombers, according to an announcement from the Pentagon.

This deployment was reportedly ordered by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to offset the upcoming departure of the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group from the area, as stated by Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder.

In addition to “several” B-52H bombers, the deployment will include “additional ballistic missile defense destroyers, fighter squadron and tanker aircraft,” Ryder mentioned on Friday. The forces are expected to arrive “in the coming months,” although he did not provide a specific timeline.

This forthcoming deployment is intended to demonstrate Washington’s commitment to “the defense of Israel,” and to promote “de-escalation through deterrence and diplomacy.” The Pentagon specifically noted that this action, along with the “recent decision to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile defense system to Israel,” was a direct response to Tehran.

“Secretary Austin continues to make clear that should Iran, its partners, or its proxies use this moment to target American personnel or interests in the region, the United States will take every measure necessary to defend our people,” the spokesman emphasized.

The announcement coincides with rising tensions in the Middle East, where Iran and Israel remain entrenched in a cycle of violence. Recently, Israel carried out a series of strikes against Iran last Saturday in retaliation for an Iranian missile attack on Israel earlier in October, which was described as a response to a series of high-profile assassinations allegedly attributed to Israel.
