On Tuesday, heavily armed law enforcement agents conducted a series of pre-dawn raids throughout New York City, arresting numerous illegal immigrants believed to be involved in violent crimes.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem personally oversaw the operation, marking her fourth day in office.
“We’re in New York City this morning, we’re getting dirtbags off these streets,” Noem posted on X. In another message, she stated that the DHS was delivering “exactly what President [Donald] Trump promised the American people – making our streets safe.”
Noem shared various photos and videos featuring heavily armed officers from Homeland Security Investigations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the US Secret Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, US Marshals, and the New York Police Department’s Special Operations unit.
“Enforcement operation in NYC. Criminal alien with kidnapping, assault & burglary charges is now in custody - thanks to @ICE. Dirtbags like this will continue to be removed from our streets,” she added.
She highlighted one of the individuals taken into custody by ICE as “a criminal alien with kidnapping, assault and burglary charges.”
Another significant arrest of the day was Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, 25, who is alleged to be the ringleader of the infamous Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang accused of instilling fear in residents of Colorado.
Pacheco was identified as one of the men seen on CCTV breaking into an Aurora apartment last August. On Tuesday morning, heavily armed HSI agents raided the Bronx apartments where he had been residing for several months.
Neighbors informed the New York Post that law enforcement had to break down the door to apprehend Pacheco, who is wanted in Colorado for kidnapping, burglary, and menacing. According to one tenant, Pacheco moved to New York around September or October and was “very cooperative, very friendly” with those living nearby.
Following last Monday’s inauguration, Trump acted swiftly to close the US-Mexico border and initiate immigration raids in major US cities, referring to the illegal presence of millions of foreigners as an “invasion.”
The White House has also been working to deport thousands of convicted criminals back to their home countries. Over the weekend, Colombia initially resisted a repatriation flight but quickly reversed its position in light of Trump’s threats to impose sanctions and tariffs on the South American nation.
