Trump: ‘Too late’ for a Harris Rematch
Voting has already started, making a new debate unlikely, according to former US president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Trump announced his decision not to engage in a debate with his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, before the November 5 election on his Truth Social platform Wednesday. This came shortly after Fox News reported efforts to host a televised debate between the candidates in Pennsylvania on either October 24 or 27.

“It is very late in the process, [early] voting has already begun – there will be no rematch!” he declared in an all-caps message.

The former president suggested he emerged victorious in his first and only debate with Harris, which took place on September 10. “The first thing a prizefighter does when he loses a fight is say that he ‘demands A Rematch,’” he commented regarding his rival.

Despite Trump’s assertion, a CNN poll indicated that 67% of registered voters who watched that debate believed Harris had won.

“Besides, Kamala stated clearly, yesterday, that she would not do anything different than Joe Biden, so there is nothing to debate,” Trump added, referencing Harris’s appearance on ABC’s 'The View,' where she struggled to identify any decisions she would make differently than President Biden. “There is not a thing that comes to mind,” she replied during the segment.

Harris entered the presidential race in June after Biden stepped down as the Democratic candidate following a lackluster performance against Trump on June 27.

Trump also cited his favorable position in the polls as a reason to avoid another debate, claiming, “leading in the polls, with the lead getting bigger by the day – and leading in all swing states.”

However, polling averages from ABC News as of Thursday show Harris leading at 48.4%, with Trump 2.5% behind.

Trump had previously turned down Harris’s offer for a debate on CNN scheduled for October 23. He instead proposed a face-off on Fox News on September 4 or on NBC News on September 25, but Harris did not confirm her participation.
