Media reports: Israeli strike aimed at Hezbollah leader
Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Shia Hezbollah movement, is reportedly alive following a “massive” airstrike on the group's headquarters in the Lebanese capital, according to a source close to the movement, as reported by Reuters. West Jerusalem has confirmed the bombing of an underground compound linked to Hezbollah in the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut.

IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari indicated that the attack specifically targeted the main headquarters of the Shia militia, which is situated beneath a civilian neighborhood.

On Friday, Axios cited an Israeli source stating that Nasrallah was the intended target of the operation, and the Israeli military is currently assessing whether he was affected by the strike. However, West Jerusalem has not officially verified this information. Some Israeli media reports suggest that the Hezbollah leader may have been killed in the attack.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency also reported that Nasrallah is safe, mentioning that six buildings were destroyed in the strike. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Al Manar news outlet reported that the assault on the suburb led to at least six fatalities and 76 injuries, but did not provide any details about Nasrallah.

In recent days, the Israeli military has conducted four airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, resulting in the deaths of at least three high-ranking Hezbollah commanders: Ibrahim Aqil, Ahmed Wahbi, and Ibrahim Qubaisi. These strikes were part of an ongoing Israeli bombing campaign against Hezbollah across various locations in Lebanon. Lebanon’s Health Ministry reports that at least 1,300 individuals have been killed due to Israeli strikes.

Since the onset of the Israel-Hamas war nearly a year ago, more than 100,000 people have been evacuated from both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border as exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters continue.

Hezbollah has supported the Palestinian cause through sporadic missile attacks on Israeli military installations in response to Israel's military campaign against the Gaza-based Hamas militant group. This campaign was initiated following a deadly Hamas raid last October, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli casualties.

According to Palestinian health authorities, the Israeli military action has led to over 41,000 fatalities, including nearly 16,500 children. Earlier this month, West Jerusalem significantly intensified its campaign against Hezbollah, wounding thousands in a sabotage operation targeting the group's handheld communication devices and launching airstrikes on southern Lebanon since last week.
