Trump says America should exit Ukraine
The former president has cautioned that the US is at risk of becoming entrenched in another indefinite conflict.

During a campaign rally, former President Donald Trump emphasized the need for a well-defined exit strategy concerning the situation in Ukraine. He criticized both the current President Joe Biden and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, asserting that neither has a viable plan to resolve the conflict.

“Biden and Kamala got us into this war in Ukraine, and now they can't get us out. They can't get us out,” Trump told the audience in Savannah, Georgia, on Tuesday, reiterating his commitment to ending the war if he is reelected.

“I think that we're stuck in that war unless I'm president. I'll get it done. I'll negotiate; I’ll get us out. We gotta get out. Biden says, ‘We will not leave until we win,’” Trump stated.

Trump expressed concern about the implications of a Russian victory: “What happens if the Russians win? That’s what they do – they fight wars. As someone told me the other day, they beat Hitler; they beat Napoleon. That’s what they do. They fight. And it’s not pleasant,” he said.

At another rally on Monday, Trump claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has a vested interest in ensuring the Democrats remain in power, suggesting that this arrangement allows Zelensky to secure $60 billion each time he visits the US.

Currently in the US, Zelensky is anticipated to meet with Biden, Harris, and other congressional members to outline his “victory plan,” which is focused on compelling Moscow to capitulate rather than engaging in talks.

Reports indicate that while Zelensky had hoped to meet with Trump, a campaign official noted that no such meeting has been arranged yet.

During Zelensky's visit, the US is expected to announce an additional $375 million in military aid for Ukraine, according to AP sources. This new package may include missiles for HIMARS launchers, cluster bombs for Ukrainian aircraft, and various ammunition, all sourced from US military reserves.

According to the Pentagon, the US has allotted more than $56 billion in direct military assistance to Ukraine since February 2022. In April, a $61 billion military aid package for Ukraine was approved despite initial resistance from some Republican lawmakers. Ukrainian officials remain wary that a potential Trump presidency could jeopardize the consistent flow of US military support.
