Trump inauguration moved indoors
Due to the severe cold weather in Washington, DC, the US president-elect will take his oath of office indoors at the Capitol.

US President-elect Donald Trump has decided to deliver his inauguration speech within the Capitol building, highlighting the dangerous conditions posed by the extreme cold that could affect both his supporters and security personnel.

Typically, US presidents are sworn in outside the Capitol, with crowds gathering along the National Mall.

“January 20th cannot come fast enough!” Trump expressed on Friday via a post on his Truth Social platform. “It is my obligation to protect the People of our Country but, before we even begin, we have to think of the Inauguration itself.”

Referring to the “Arctic blast” impacting the US and predictions for “severe record lows” in Washington, Trump noted that the harsh weather would create hazardous conditions for “hundreds of thousands of supporters that will be outside for many hours,” along with law enforcement and their service animals.

With these concerns in mind, the president-elect announced that his inaugural address, prayers, and other speeches will take place inside the Capitol Rotunda, reminiscent of President Ronald Reagan's decision in 1985 due to similar cold weather.

“This will be a very beautiful experience for all, and especially for the large TV audience!” Trump stated in his social media post. “In any event, if you decide to come, dress warmly!” he advised.

The ceremony will also be broadcast live from the nearby Capital One Arena, a sports venue located a few blocks away. This venue is already booked for Trump's Victory Rally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, with the president-elect planning to join his supporters there after his swearing-in on Monday.

“Everyone will be safe, everyone will be happy, and we will, together, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the president-elect declared.

Historically, newly elected presidents had to wait until March 4 of the following year for their inauguration after winning elections in early November. However, the 20th Amendment, ratified in 1933, moved the inauguration date to January 20.

The ceremony typically features attendance from members of Congress, justices of the US Supreme Court, former presidents and their spouses, along with foreign ambassadors and special guests invited by the incoming president.

A select number of Americans receive special tickets through their congressional representatives, enabling them to enter designated areas on the Capitol grounds for the inauguration. Meanwhile, the general public is allowed to gather on the National Mall, where large screens broadcast the event.

President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021 took place with extensive National Guard presence around the Capitol, with no public spectators allowed. This precaution followed concerns of potential "insurrection" stemming from a riot by Trump supporters at that same location just weeks prior.
