‘Stop donating to Wokepedia,’ says Musk
Elon Musk has criticized the Wikimedia Foundation for allocating over $50 million to its initiatives focused on ‘Equity’ and ‘Safety and Inclusion.’

The billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla, SpaceX, and X expressed his discontent this week regarding Wikipedia's financial disclosures, which revealed a substantial investment—over $50 million of its roughly $177 million budget for 2023-2024—dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

With more than 90% of its funding derived from donations, Musk addressed his concerns on X, stating, “Stop donating to Wokepedia until they restore balance to their editing authority.”

On Thursday, he further criticized Wikipedia, remarking that it “sucks” for spending such a significant sum on DEI efforts.

DEI, which encompasses various strategies aimed at enhancing workforce diversity, has been met with backlash from conservatives, who claim it enforces reverse discrimination against white individuals and harms merit-based evaluations. In recent months, numerous large corporations, including Boeing, Ford, Nissan, and Walmart, have scaled back their DEI programs.

Wikipedia argues that it is working to eliminate obstacles to free knowledge resulting from racial inequality and aims to reduce the gender gap while promoting equal representation of knowledge and individuals on its platform. Additionally, the organization is focused on “defending our people and projects against disinformation and harmful government regulation” as well as other external challenges.

Musk has a history of conflict with the encyclopedia, labeling it as “broken.”

In October, he contended that Wikipedia is openly endorsing a narrative that paints US President-elect Donald Trump—whom he supported—as a “fascist,” alleging that the site is “controlled by far-left activists.”

That same month, he proposed $1 billion to Wikipedia if it would change its name to ‘Dickipedia’ for a year, accusing the platform of bias.

Previously, Larry Sanger, a co-founder of Wikipedia, claimed that the site is being utilized by the US intelligence community as a tool for "control" and to advance the left-liberal agenda.

Despite the criticism, Wikipedia maintains that it adheres to a foundational set of principles that emphasize providing information in a neutral, verifiable, and balanced manner.
