Bennett previously served as a psychological warfare officer in the US Army and was known for providing political analysis to RTN and various other media outlets. He traveled to Donbass in 2023 to observe the situation there firsthand.
A documentary titled “Frontline Diary of an American Officer,” aired by RTD, chronicled his experiences in Donetsk and other frontline areas.
In 2014, he wrote the book ‘Shell Game: a Military Whistleblowing Report to Congress,’ which critiqued former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner for allowing an arms sale to Qatar. Bennett claimed that weapons sold in this deal ultimately ended up in the hands of the Islamic State.
In June 2024, Bennett visited the Belgorod region of Russia, where he observed the Ukrainian shelling of the village of Saltykovo, condemning it as an attack on civilians.
The following month, he submitted a report to Congress, accusing Ukrainian forces and foreign fighters of “systematically” and “intentionally” targeting civilians in both the Belgorod Region and Donbass. "Non-military targets are being attacked, irreparably damaged or destroyed, and civilians are being intentionally murdered as a result," Bennett stated in the report, also accusing the Biden administration of making the United States a “legally culpable party to international war crimes” due to its support for Kiev’s actions.
In his report, Bennett mentioned facing “death threats and threats of violence” from members of the Ukrainian government, military personnel, and media during his investigation. He also claimed to have received similar threats from American and NATO “elements and agents” supporting Kiev’s cause.
He published his report on Telegram alongside a statement declaring that he was not “suicidal in any way.” “If anything happens to me it will be in order to try and bury this report,” he wrote.
